A Celebration of Recovery—2008

DAY SEVENTEEN/EIGHTEEN: Springville (Utah)
Miles: 0 (718) • Start elevation: 5500 ft. • Ending elevation: 5500 ft. • Temp. 92F

The bicycling portion of our trip is officially over. It's with sadness that this is the reality. I had, at least, wanted to go to Denver, but I'll accept that our journey has concluded after just 2-1/2 weeks. Meanwhile, if we had to call it short I'm glad that I have the opportunity to be with precious friends. The Cox's are wonderful people who mean a lot to me and their children are several cuts above most. I am glad to have a couple of days that I can visit with them and I thank them for opening up their home to Paul and I.
After weighing the transportation options Paul has decided that renting a car would be the best option for getting him, and all of the gear, back to Dallas. The arrangements were made with Budget Car Rentals, so we all piled into the van and made our way over to the local car rental office. We all helped to load Paul's bicycle and gear into the Toyota 4-Runner, and offered our good-byes and prayerful blessings for his safe journey. Again Paul, I want to thank you for accompanying me on this little journey. It was a legendary experience, even though it was cut short. Thanks, my friend.
The next day included more blissful relaxation, a hearty pancake breakfast, riding bicycles with Leora and Jaden, and sharing stories and experiences with the family. That night I would be boarding the California Zephyr—Amtrak service to Sacramento and San Francisco.
